Sabato 13 marzo grazie a Beat e Michaela della kanuschule-bodensee (scuola-di-canoa-del-lago-di-Costanza...) ho potuto vedere dal vivo diversi modelli della Tide Race ovvero l'Xplore, l'Xplore S, l'Xcite e l'Xcite-S e anche uscirci in mare in Liguria per un test.
Saturday 13th march, thank to Beat and Michaela of kanuschule-bodensee (kayak school of boden lake...) I could see and test in the ligurian sea some models from Tide Race that is Xplore, Xplore S, Xcite and Xcite-S .
L'Xplore (qui sotto in rosso e nero) è un kayak da 53 cm di larghezza, 380 litri, dotato di 4 gavoni, molto rifinito ed eccezionalmente manovrabile nonostante la stazza. Un vero cruiser di lungo corso.
The Xplore (below in red and black) is 21" wide, 380 ltrs, 4 hatches, very well made, has exceptional manoeuvrability despite the size. A real cruiser for long distances.
L'XploreS è la versione "low volume" dell'Xplore e ha le seguenti misure: 50 cm e 330 litri
Come il suo fratello maggiore è un kayak ottimizzato per la scorrevolezza ("xplorare"... significa fare tanta strada da carichi...)
The XploreS is the low volume version of the Xpolore, is 20" wide and 330 ltrs.
As her bigger sister, this is a kayak optimized for light effort paddling (xplore...means to travel over long distances with payload...)
Di diversa concezione è invece la serie Xcite basata sulla estrema manovrabilità e neutralità in acqua mossa.
Il kayak è da 53 cm ed è parecchio "sbananato" per avere un buon comportamento nel mosso.
Dell'Xcite sono rimasto colpito dalla responsività e dalla estrema manovrabilità.
"Gira su un francobollo" come si potrebbe dire dell'Anas acuta ma senza essere così estremo.
Diciamo che se l'Anas lo lasci partire di lato, hai voglia a fare edging, inclinarlo su un lato, per tenerlo, mentre l'Xcite lo correggi subito.
Un po' come il confronto tra un'auto trazione posteriore anni 70 e una di oggi.
The Xcite is a different story, the design is based on extreme manoeuvrability and good handling in rough water.
This kayak is 21" wide, has a lot of rocker to achieve a good handling in rough water.
"You can turn her on a dime" you would say about an Anas acuta... well it is pretty the same with this boat without being so extreme.
You can turn an Anas acuta or let her broach and then it is hard to recover even with the edging, the Xcite gives you more possibilities to control.
It looks like the same difference between a car of the 70's and a today's car
Anche dell'Xcite esiste la versione S...barca che però non ho provato.
There is also the XciteS but I did not test this boat.

Devo dire che quanto scritto si ritrova pienamente riconoscibile anche a comuni mortali utenti quali noi pagaiatori del mediterraneo che abbiamo fatto una prova in un mare appena appena increspato.
I have to say that I could find exactly what I read... and I am just an ordinary paddler of the quiet mediterranena sea.
I pozzetti, la seduta, il contatto con la barca sono ottimi, come già su altre barche di progettazione di Aled (per quel che ne so sono il Romany della Nigel Dennis Kayaks e la serie Alaw della Rockpool).
The cockpit, the seat, the contact with the boat are very good, as other boats designed by Aled Williams (as far as I know the Romany and the Alaw)
Un benvenuto dunque a queste belle barche!
