Greenland 550 with ocean cockpit

Poco più di 2 anni fa avevo provato un Greenland 550 di CS Canoe trovandolo davvero interessante come scafo ma meno attraente nella parte del pozzetto, non perchè fosse poco ergonomico ma in quanto troppo lontano dall'estetica e dalla mia idea di funzionalità dei tradizionali pozzetti inuit.

A little over 2 years ago I had tried a CS Canoe Greenland 550 finding it really interesting as a hull but less attractive in the part of the cockpit, not because it was not very ergonomic but as too far from the aesthetics and from my idea of functionality of traditional Inuit cockpits .

Però lo scafo mi piaceva... e dai e dai .. mi sono deciso e ho chiesto a CS Canoe se volevano sviluppare una versione dall'estetica più tradizionale e gli ho proposto l'idea ispirata ai kayak storici e alle tante belle autocostruzioni che si trovano in rete.

But I liked the hull ... and so .. I made up my mind and I asked CS Canoe if they wanted to develop a more traditional version. I proposed the idea inspired by historical kayaks and the many beautiful DIY constructions I saw  in the internet.

L'idea è stata accolta e, grazie alla modifica del vecchio maschio dello stampo, CS ha ottenuto un nuovo ponte anteriore dall'estetica (per me) decisamente più appagante.

The idea was accepted and, thanks to the modification of the old plug, CS has obtained a new front deck with a much more satisfying aesthetic (for me).

Tra mille impegni di tutti la cosa è andata un po' per le lunghe ma finalmente il kayak è in produzione e l'ho potuto ritirare lo scorso gennaio.

Among a thousand commitments the thing went a bit too long but finally the kayak is in production and I was able to take it last January.

L'ho per ora provato solo sul fiume vicino a casa senza delle reali onde.
In ogni caso lo scafo lo conoscevo e ne parlo nel post del 2012 e quindi mi dedico qui a descrivere il ponte e la costruzione in generale.

For now I have only tried it on the river near home without real waves.
In any case, I knew the hull and I talk about it in the post of 2012 therefore here I dedicate myself to describe the deck and the construction in general.

Il kayak è davvero leggero, credo siamo sui 13 kg (devo pesarlo ancora) e il tutto è molto rigido.
La costruzione in kevlar / carbonio vacuum con lo sferatex è sicuramente una bella soluzione in cui CS dimostra tutta la sua eccellenza.

The kayak is really light, I think about 13 kg (I have to weigh it again) and is very rigid.
The construction in kevlar / carbon vacuum with sferatex tissue is certainly a nice solution in which CS demonstrates all its excellence.

Mi sembra finalmente di avere in mano uno skin on frame... pur essendo una barca normale con gavoni e skeg.

I finally seem to have a skin on frame in hand ... despite being a normal boat with hatches and skeg.

Il pozzetto piccolo è inclinato e si entra bene, ti sta abbastanza addosso anche se il ponte è 26-27 cm cioè non troppo minimale.

The ocean cockpit is inclined and you can enter it well, it fits quite well even if the deck is 26-27 cm that is not too low.

Credo questo sia l'optimum tra l'Anas acuta che è molto abitabile (l'Anas ha il ponte da 29 cm) e il Black Pearl che misura 22 o 24 cm a seconda delle versioni LV e HV.

I think this is the optimum between the Anas acuta which has more room (the Anas has a 29 cm high deck) and the Black Pearl which measures 22 or 24 cm depending on the LV and HV versions.

Io non ho dovuto spessorare il ponte ma non sono un maniaco del super tight fit... ho creato solo degli agganci per le ginocchia, adesso lo devo provare nel mosso per le ultime rifiniture, infatti la prova l'ho fatta sul fiume Adda dove è piatto ("ove non fiume" direbbe il fluvialissimo amico Cortez...).

I did not have to pad the under deck but I am not a super tight fit maniac ... I only created contact points for the knees, now I have to try it in rough waters for the last finishes, in fact I did the test on the Adda river where it is flat ("where not river" my very whitewater friend Cortez would argue...).

Non credo gli dovrò fare mai un masik in gomma ma nel caso (es. per gare di rolling) sarebbe facilissimo farlo e attaccarlo sotto il ponte che è liscio e regolare.

I don't think I'll ever have to do a rubber masik but in the case (e.g. for rolling competition) it would be very easy to do it and attach it under the deck which is smooth and regular.

Si tocca sempre il ponte con la punta dei piedi ma li puoi mettere "a martello" senza difficoltà e questo per me era un obiettivo importante (voglio una barca in cui poter stare seduto a lungo e questo per me significa di tanto in tanto poter sgranchire le gambe e stirare i polpacci mettendo i piedi a squadra, con il mio 44/45 non su tutti i kayak ciò è possibile)

You always touch the deck with your toes but you can place them square without difficulty and this was an important goal for me (I want a boat in which I am be able to sit for a long time and this for me means occasionally being able to stretch legs and stretch calves by putting my feet square, with my shoe size 11 UK not on all kayaks this is possible)

In questa versione ho messo il sedile in gomma rimovibile che non è male anche se non escludo in futuro di mettere un sedile a padella che contenga bene... devo fare un po' di prove nel mosso per capire esattamente cosa preferisce il mio c....

In this version I put the removable rubber seat which is not bad even if I do not exclude in the future to put a pan seat that fits well ... I have to do some tests in rough waters to understand exactly what my bum prefers. ...
