Oggi ho provato il Nordkapp LV in mare a Sestri Levante, c'erano delle onde abbastanza alte per la media del mediterraneo (il meteo dava 2,6 m) ma decisamente morbide e poco adatte ad essere surfate, assieme a me Antonio su Xcite S e Massimo su Xplore.
Today I tested my Nordkapp LV in the sea of Sestri Levante, there were waves of good height for the mediterranen average (the forecast said 2,6 m) but very smooth and not suitable to be surfed. Fellow paddlers Antonio on Xcite S and Massimo on Xplore.
Grazie all'occhio acuto di Massimo subito in partenza abbiamo avuto il piacere di vedere i delfini nella baia...
Thanks to Massimo's sharp eyes just at the beginning we enjoyed to see some dolphins in the bay...
Abbiamo speso un'oretta ad uscire e rientrare in baia prendendo le onde che arrivavavo diritte da sud ma il tutto con poca resa, come dicevo le onde erano poco pendenti e molto veloci. Nonostante si pagaiasse duro ne abbiamo agganciate poche e per poche decine di metri.
Per quel poco che ho surfato ho avuto l'impressione che il Nordkapp non sia molto planante, tende a piantarsi nell'onda ed alzare acqua a lato (si vede bene nella foto sotto)... mi sembra meno cattivo del Baidarka a cui sono abituato.
Di contro è una barca che rimane prevedibile e manovra molto bene, per tenere rotta all'inizio usavo lo skeg ma poi l'ho tolto del tutto, si guida bene dando pancia.
We spent an hour paddling in and out in the bay taking the waves arriving straight from south... anyway not very effective, as said the waves were not steep and very fast. Despite we tried hard we could surf only few of them and for few tens of meters.
From the little I surfed I had the impression that the Nordkapp is not much planing, tends to stay in the wave and raise water to the side (you can clearly see in the picture below) ... it looks like less aggressive than the Baidarka I'm used to.
On the other end it is a predictable boat very easy to manouver, to go straight at the beginning I used the skeg but then I closed it, you can steer the boat with edging.
In queste condizioni ho visto che nemmeno l'Xplore di Massimo o l'Xcite S di Antonio (barche dallo scafo tendente alla planata) riuscivano a fare delle belle surfate.
In this conditions I saw that neither massimo's Xplore nor Antonio's Xcite S (boats with hulls suitable for planing) could surf properly
L'umore era comunque ottimo come si può vedere dalle foto...
The mood was anyway good as you can see in the pictures...
Come al solito abbiamo chiuso la giornata in un buon ristorante, mangiando e bevendo troppo!!!
As usual we closed the day in a good restaurant eating and drinking too much!!!
